Water Conservation Awareness Programme, a CFE initiative, caters to the student community mainly to sensitise them and increase their knowledge level about the importance of water and the significance of Dimna Lake.
The inaugural programme was organised on April 24, 2018 under Tata Steel Water Conservation Campaign, #SaveTheDrop with Tata Steel. Water Management and Corporate Sustainability departments collaborate for the programme.
The course of the programme includes a field trip for the students to Tata Management Development Centre (TMDC), Dimna. The spokesperson from the respective departments addresses the students, sharing an insight about the global scenario on water and what the future would be keeping in mind the present trend. Some helpful tips on how to conserve water are discussed, with an urge to practice them in daily lives. The history of Dimna Lake and its connection with the city is also discussed. The presumption of Dimna Lake being the regular water provider for the city is explained that it acts as a water reserve to supply water during crisis.
So far, the programme has covered 16 schools and 160 students from English and Hindi medium schools of Jamshedpur. It is an eventful learning experience for the students as they become responsive about the importance of water and responsible in how to use for future purposes.
