On May 12, 2020, Tata Steel celebrated the 165th birth anniversary of Pramatha Nath Bose, the pioneering geologist of India, whose mineral exploration led to the setting up of Tata Steel Iron and Steel Company Ltd. (TISCO) in 1907, at a small village called ‘Sakchi’, now Jamshedpur.
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the occasion was commemorated in a unique way by Going Digital, the first e-Event in Tata Steel. A series of engaging activities were scheduled for the entire day.
A Digital Homage was hosted on Intranet for employees to pay their tribute to PN Bose, followed by a live webinar on “The Role of Mining in a 5-trillion Economy” by Mr S K Adhikar, Chief Mining Geologist, Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM). A Rock Show (a compilation of iron ores/minerals found in the mines of Tata Steel) and a Treasure Hunt were also organised. Towards the end of the day, there was a release of two podcasts; the first podcast on the life of Pramatha Nath Bose & the relevance today by Mr M C Thomas, EIC, FAMD, Tata Steel; and the second podcast on the Book Reading from the preface of Pramatha Nath Bose by Ms Merlyn Ferdose Anklesaria, Senior Manager, Corporate Communication, Tata Steel.
