The ‘Story of Iron Making’ at Tata Steel has been a remarkable one, right from the department’s inception in 1911. With significant production enhancement, technological development, challenges and achievements, the milestones have been fascinating. Jamsetji N Tata’s vision of setting up India’s first steel plant and his elder son, Sir Dorabji Tata’s perseverance led to the founding of Tata Iron and Steel Company (TISCO) on August 26, 1907. In the early days, the management engaged experts from America for running the blast furnaces as they were considered to be the best in the industry. The philosophy of seeking out the world’s best in technology is integral to Tata Steel.
